Author: Jess Walker
Jess Walkers official roles and credentials include Mum, Sibling, Daughter, Friend, Author, Conscious-entrepreneur, BSc Psychology and Counselling, PGDip Psychology, EMF, and an Earth-School Graduate. She has worked for 25 years in a variety of roles across the care sector, prior to specialising in mum-hood, which is her favourite role by far.
Jess’s life, and her understanding of the world, has been profoundly shaped by growing up with a sister who had Cystic Fibrosis. Now, as a mum to three, her two sons and her daughter (who has a severe heart condition) continue to enhance her unique insight into life as a sibling of children with additional needs. The story “Sammy Rocket” was written in light of this, to help children and families navigate their journeys in a way that can help them to thrive.
Her writing is informed by her academic and professional knowledge, particularly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). An approach she values for its potential to empower children to create their own happiness.
Jess has more books and ideas in progress, including a companion workbook for “Sammy Rocket”, and an anthology of sibling stories to give this often underrepresented group of children a voice! Watch this space, or visit the get involved page for more info

The Real Rockets
Sammy Rocket’ has been written with invaluable input from these three pocket rockets.

Yep, pants on their heads 😀
Based in Worcestershire in the UK, these 3 Pocket Rockets, along with mum Jess, and King Dog are often found causing chaos in gardens, parks, cafe’s, libraries, opticians and more – they regularly amaze each other, as well as teachers, doctors and their two new fish, who are continuously wide eyed with mouths agape at the antics they witness.
Of course, they also enjoy calmer times, relaxing and beach combing with “Rad Dad”, anything calmly with “Nine” (pronounced nine, but actually spelt Nain, and meaning “Nan” in Welsh). Oh and also they can be found behaving generally more wildly with the other family members they adore.
* Most, but not all, nicknames in the book are genuine and affectionately used, for instance; yes “Shiny Nine” is their Nan (Nain) – one of them, – & no “Rad Dad” is not called this, ever – despite his best efforts 😉
